McDonald's® Makes Rice Fantastic By Launching The New Chicken Fàn-tasticTM and Beef Fàn-tasticTM
Offering An Oriental Taste That Meets Customers' Eating Preferences
Hong Kong, March 20, 2006 - McDonald's Hong Kong today unveiled the brand new Chicken Fàn-tastic and Beef Fàn-tastic as well as two new, refreshing items including fresh pineapple and a plum drink with aloe vera, providing customers with a greater variety and an enhanced dining experience. The innovative rice burger provides a different experience for eating rice, one of Hong Kong's favorite foods. McDonald's cares about its customers and listens to their needs. Therefore we used quality ingredients to create the new Fàn-tastic burgers, allowing customers to consume rice anytime, anywhere. This new initiative represents another key milestone for McDonald's in fulfilling the brand promise of the "i'm lovin' itTM" global campaign.

Sampling the new Fàn-tastic burgers during today's media conference at McDonald's Cityplaza, were popular actress Ms. Michelle Ye and actor Mr. Bobby Au Yeung; Mr. Joseph Lau, Managing Director of McDonald's Hong Kong; and Ronald McDonaldTM, McDonald's Chief Happiness Officer. A fun-filled Chinese opera was performed by Michelle, Bobby and Ronald as part of the promotion's oriental theme.

Prepared with only the freshest and highest quality ingredients, the Fàn-tastic burgers include Chicken Fàn-tastic and Beef Fàn-tastic. With a blend of premium rice, mushroom, soy sauce, sesame oil and ginger, the Fàn-tastic rice patties are toasted at high temperature to provide a "wok flavor" and a unique texture.

Chicken Fàn-tastic contains premium chicken thighs seasoned in a special sauce. Along with peppers, onion, garlic-flavored mayonnaise, fresh lettuce and red cabbage, these fine ingredients offer a rich, oriental flavor. Chicken Fàn-tastic uses high-grade chicken coated with flour and is fully cooked. The cooked chicken is then frozen immediately to preserve the taste and succulence. The processed chicken will also be further tested to ensure it meets our demanding quality standards. We follow stringent quality control, hygiene and cleanliness standards. We also fully cook our chicken to temperatures of at least 70°C, following the optimum temperature set by the World Health Organization to ensure our chicken is 100% safe and reliable.

The delicious Beef Fàn-tastic contains premium beef slices, marinated in a Korean sauce, together with onion, fresh lettuce and red cabbage. Premium cuts including sirloin and ribs are hand de-boned and seasoned with sugar, garlic, soy sauce, Korean flavors and turmeric oil.

New items from McDonald's also include fresh pineapple and a plum drink with aloe vera. All natural and without any added sugar, the fresh pineapple comes in slices with its fresh taste and nutritional value maintained. The plum drink with aloe vera is a perfect blend of the two ingredients for a cool and refreshing taste.

"As its name suggests, McDonald's new Fàn-tastic burger is indeed providing a fantastic dining experience to customers. The cooking method together with the ingredients perfectly match Hong Kong people's love for eating rice. I'm sure the plum drink with aloe vera, which has a strong Asian twist, will also be very popular in Hong Kong," Ms. Michelle Ye said at the press conference.

Mr. Bobby Au Yeung also expressed his enthusiasm about the new food items. "Both the Chicken Fàn-tastic and the Beef Fàn-tastic are tasty and satisfying. The pineapple is also nutritional and fresh."

McDonald's Hong Kong has developed these new menu items from extensive customer research into the food choices and ingredients preferred by Hong Kong people. The Fàn-tastic burgers offer the finest ingredients including premium rice, premium lettuce, quality chicken thighs and 100% natural sliced beef.

Plum Drink with Aloe Vera - The plum drink with aloe vera blends perfectly to provide customers with a refreshing new taste.
High Quality Akitakomati Rice - The rice grain of Akitakomati Rice is even in size and translucent, smooth with a strong rice aroma. The rice is nutritionally rich in the source of vegetable protein and necessary amino acid, vitamins, calcium, phosphorus, iron, zinc and selenium. These elements are beneficial for human health.
Chicken - Chicken Fàn-tastic contains fine chicken processed by advanced machinery, which is seasoned, coated with flour and fully cooked and then frozen immediately to preserve the taste and succulence. The chicken is processed under stringent quality control, hygiene and cleanliness standards including fully cooked to at least 70°C, the optimum temperature stipulated by the World Health Organization to ensure the meat is 100% safe and reliable.
